Every student is allocated a House when they arrive at the British School of Houston. The 4 Houses are Air, Earth, Fire and Water - these names were voted for by the whole school community including students, parents and staff in October 2010. The first House competition was to design the House Crests.
Awarding of House Points
We believe that pupils thrive when they receive praise for their effort, success in their studies, sport, music and other extra-curricular involvement in the life of the school. We will House Points for the following reasons:
Achievement above and beyond what is expected for that individual student
Excellent behavior
An outstanding piece of work
Effort
Service to the school
Unprompted acts of thoughtfulness or kindness
Representing the school in any competition or event
Use of initiative
Certificates
Students accrue individual points which enable them to achieve the following:
30 HPs – Bronze House Certificate (awarded by Class Teacher)
50 HPs – Silver House Certificate (Awarded by Key Stage Leader of Learning)
100 HPs – Gold House Certificate (Awarded by Mr Cutts – in assembly)
150 HPs – Platinum House Certificate (Awarded by Mr Foxwell – in assembly)
as well as earning House Points for their House.
If students gain enough House Points or Merits (which are worth 5 House Points) they are able to have a Free Dress Day wearing mainly their house colours once each term.
This year's House Events include Spelling Bee, Debating, Sports, Science and Design, Baking and a Music Festival.
The events will be run by members of staff and house points will be awarded to those who enter and to those who are lucky enough to win events. Other smaller house events will be run throughout the year by individual year groups, key stages and sports teams and details will follow when they are announced.
